Duty to God has been a tenet of Scouting since the very beginning of our organization in 1910. The Duty to God Breakfast is a perfect opportunity to come together and be inspired by works greater than our own, and to celebrate and recognize individuals who have exemplified their faith through their actions. We are excited to have Rabbi Joseph H Prouser join us at the National Annual Meeting as our Guest Speaker for the Duty to God Breakfast.

Rabbi Joseph H. Prouser

Rabbi Joseph H. Prouser, Eagle Scout and life-long Scouter; has led congregations for forty years, and has been a leading voice for Conservative Judaism.  His work with the Rabbinical Assembly’s Committee on Jewish Law and Standards led to several rabbinic rulings on post-mortem organ donation and compulsory immunization in Jewish Day Schools. He has also served as the Rabbinical Assembly liaison to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and as a member of the Joint Beit Din (Rabbinic Court) of the Conservative Movement.

Rabbi Prouser was a Daniel Jeremy Silver fellow at Harvard University’s Center for Jewish Studies and has also taught courses in Jewish Medical Ethics and Rabbinic Literature.

Rabbi Prouser has taken an active role in Scouting America. He has served as a chaplain at Philmont Scout Ranch, at six National Jamborees and at the 2015 World Scout Jamboree in Japan. He served as the Chaplain of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting from 2017–2020 and was a member of the National Duty to God Breakfast Committee from 2011–2015. Rabbi Prouser also served as chairman of the Connecticut Rivers Council’s chapter of the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) from 1996–2000. The Americanism Breakfast: A Star-Spangled Way to Start the Day

The Americanism Breakfast is a time-honored event where the leadership of the Scouting movement celebrates our ideals of patriotism, liberty, and freedom. It’s an inspirational way to start your day!

Whether you’re an experienced Scout leader, a devoted volunteer, or a newcomer to the movement, don’t miss the Americanism Breakfast. Join us as we reconnect with friends, celebrate shared values, and reaffirm our commitment to America and Scouting.

Ron Young

Ron grew up outside of Atlanta, Georgia in a town called Lithia Springs. As a young boy, he dreamed of flying. While in

college, Mr. Young learned that by joining the US Army he could become a pilot and jumped at the opportunity. He graduated flight school and selected the deadly Apache gunship as his aircraft of choice. However, he had no idea that on September 11, 2001 his peaceful world would change entirely. He would soon become involved in our nation’s resulting war on terror as would hundreds of thousands of other service members.

On March 23, 2003 during the invasion of Iraq and on one of his first combat missions, he and co-pilot Chief Warrant Officer David Williams, were shot down behind enemy lines amidst fierce gunfire about 50 miles southwest of Baghdad. The two warrant officers eluded the pursuant Iraqi soldiers for hours under heavy gun fire but were eventually surrounded and taken captive. They were held as prisoners for 23 days under deteriorating conditions. But thankfully, weeks after it all began, the US Marines successfully rescued Young, Williams, and five other Prisoners of War near Samara, Iraq.

Mr. Young has worked as a CNN special contributor, as a White House political appointee for faith-based initiatives, and made it to the finale of the 7th season of the reality television series “The Amazing Race.” He has continued flying as a military pilot, a commercial pilot and recently left the airlines to pursue other business aspirations. Ron is an Eagle Scout and loves to share his captivating story of adversity, courage, selfless-service and inspiration with audiences around the nation.
